Date of acceptance / Kabul tarihi: February 16, 2016 / 16 Şubat 2016 ABSTRACT: Evaluation of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume in patients with psoriasis Objective: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory, systemic disease. Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) is used to evaluate the disease activity and response to therapy in psoriasis patients. However, more objective laboratory tools should be developed beside PASI. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume are inflammatory biomarkers that are known to be evaluated in various inflammatory diseases. The purpose of this study was to analyse the levels of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume in psoriasis patients and to investigate the relationship between these biomarkers and the disease activity. Materials and Methods: Fourty-nine patients with chronic plaque psoriasis and 47 controls were included in the study. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume values of two groups were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio levels were significantly higher in patients with psoriasis than in healthy controls (p<0.001). The levels of mean platelet volume did not show statistically significant difference between psoriasis patients and controls (p=0.061). When psoriasis patients were evaluated according to disease severity, no correlation was found between the disease activity and neutrophillymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume values (p>0.05). Conclusion: In the recent studies, it has been mentioned that the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume have prognostic importance for cardiovascular diseases. Assessment and management of the inflammatory status in psoriasis patients is important to prevent the comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases. With this purpose, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio might be considered as an easily accessed, available and cost-effective laboratory marker.

Background: Pneumonia is one of the severe infections in children, and empyema is one of its essential complications which causes more risk in affected children. Therefore, its early diagnosis is of great importance. Objective: This study aims to compare the value of two inflammatory markers including mean platelet volume (MPV) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in children with pneumoni...

Background: Low vitamin D has been linked to enhance inflammatory markers in various pathological conditions. We aimed to evaluate the urinary tract infection (UTI)-associated hematological and inflammatory markers mediated by low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]. Methods: Vitamin D level, hematological indices (Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], Monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio [M...
